Steerpike formed in 1992 from members of The Splendids and the Bah Humbugs, gigged in the area and London, produced several demos and a shared 12" release on . This resulted in radio plays on both the evening session with Mark Goodier and the late great show, and in a visitation by John Peel at a gig at The Wilde Club supporting Tsunami, they also supported Scum Pups. Steerpike had interest from several record labels (namely Dead Dead Good - who then proceeded to go bust). Press responses were generally mixed, with a favourable review in the NME which drew comparisons with the pixies, and plenty of less than favourable ones (in student organ "concrete" who clearly didn't like them.
The Band eventually split in 1994, after various problems with the line-up and other commitments.
Nick, Kellie and Mark carried on in a band called Cola with the inclusion of a guitarist called James Mortram and Kellie's sister Emily Siddall providing harmonies (now in Sargasso Trio), Mark went on to join the remnants of Yoghurt Belly, who were at the time turning into pre-Neutrinos band called Pelt, Nick briefly toyed with a sampler and messed about with it with Pete Morgan in a short lived unit called Neatishead, Tim Mills learnt drums and joined the Action Jacks, Richard went on to form Blue Script and later did some recording with Kellie and Emily in Little Mink. Kellie, after a break, now performed under the name of Joy Tourette and has releases as Kellie The Eagle on Monkey Love Records. Emily went on to perform with Sargasso Trio.
